Reference Guide

In large library's a system for identifying and organizing materials is used to aid the user to browse and locate specific items in the library's collection. This guide is intended to orient the interested learner and enable useful navigation of the divisions of the Library of Congress (LC) classification scheme. The table below shows the letter prefix of call numbers and their associated areas from the LC schedule. In some cases the categories are linked to other pages at this site which provide a further breakdown of the division.
